Young Researchers

Why do we want to inspire you?

It is important to introduce young scientists to the topics of Research Data Management and to inspire them. Due to modern techniques and technologies, the working environment in science is undergoing significant changes. Research Data Management, in particular, is leading to major transformations in the workplace. Therefore, we want to empower and encourage young scientists to engage with these changes.

DAPHNE4NFDI currently offers two major and important initiatives for young scientists: the Lecture Series (Ringvorlesung) in the winter semester and the Vision Network (see below).

This offer is expanded by additional workshops and meetings such as annual meetings, user meetings, and seminars.

DAPHNE4NFDI Lecture Series

This lecture series ("Ringvorlesung"), organized by the DAPHNE4NFDI consortium, aims to introduce various common experimental techniques used at large-scale facilities, such as neutron sources and synchrotrons, as well as various data aspects. The lectures cover the fundamentals of these methods and demonstrate their practical application. Furthermore, challenges and opportunities for the proper and efficient handling of the large datasets generated during experiments (e.g., enhanced research data management, automatic metadata ingestion, artificial intelligence, and machine learning models) will be addressed to highlight this often hidden aspect. The lecture series is aimed at Master's and PhD students, as well as interested postdocs.

by Jan-Dierk Grunwaldt (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), Prof. Dirk Luetzenkirchen-Hecht (University of Wuppertal), Bridget Murphy, Astrid Schneidewind (Forschungszentrum Jülich), Frank Weber (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), Paolo Dolcet (University of Padova), Wiebke Lohstroh, Michael Schulz (Technical University of Munich), Abhijeet Gaur (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), Vitaly Biniyaminov (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology)

This course is equivalent to 2 ECTS credits

The lecture series consists of 16 lectures, which take place online every Tuesday at 15:30 (CET) starting from October 28, 2025. Please check the content before each lecture to ensure you have the latest version.

DAPHNE4NFDI Vision

The DAPHNE4NFDI Vision Network enables young scientists to exchange ideas and collaborate on Research Data Management and related topics. For this purpose, participants meet two to three times a year at different locations for workshops. These focus on active contributions, practical exercises, and discussion.

The first workshop took place on November 11 and 12, 2024, at the Institute for X-ray Physics at the Georg-August-University in Göttingen. Participants exchanged views on the SciCat metadata catalog and various Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELNs).

These workshops are organized by Christian Trageser (Forschungszentrum Jülich), Vitaly Biniyaminov (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), and Markus Osterhoff (Georg-August-University Göttingen)
